Your Garden, Properly Done

From a single patio to a complete garden transformation, Ash Landscaping has been designing and building gardens across Cheshire since 1989. Run by Colin Ash, we handle the hard landscaping, patios, driveways, walling, drainage, and the soft landscaping that finishes it off, working with an RHS-affiliated horticulturist on planting where a project calls for it.

Every garden starts with the ground: soil, drainage, sun and shade, how the space will actually be used. Get that right first, and everything built on top of it lasts. Browse our residential services below, or get in touch to talk through your garden.

From a single new patio to a complete rear-garden transformation, we design and build gardens across Cheshire that work as hard as they look good. Hard landscaping, patios, paths, levels, drainage, sits alongside soft landscaping and planting, with detailed planting schedules from our RHS-affiliated horticulturist where a project calls for it. Every design starts with a free, no-obligation site visit.

Natural stone, porcelain and block paving, laid on a properly prepared sub-base so it stays flat for years, not just one winter. Every patio and driveway is finished with Everlasting Grout, our hard-set resin jointing system, it sets in fifteen minutes, won't wash out, and won't let frost lift your paving the way standard sand-and-resin compounds do.

A good lawn is decided before the turf goes down. We clear, level and condition the ground first, including improving drainage where a lawn is prone to water-logging, then lay quality turf we supply direct, at competitive prices. Ideal for a brand-new lawn, a full renovation, or reseeding a tired, patchy area.

Dry stone walling is a genuine Cheshire craft, a boundary or feature wall built without mortar, relying on the skill of how the stone is set, that will stand for generations if it's done properly. Alongside traditional walling, we design and install timber and panel fencing for boundaries, privacy and security, matched to your garden.

A well-built pond does more for a garden than almost anything else, movement, sound, and a magnet for wildlife. We design and build everything from a small formal water feature to a larger wildlife pond, with aquatic and marginal planting handled through our specialist network, so the finished feature looks established from day one.

If part of your garden floods or never quite dries out, we can fix it the way that actually lasts. Rather than piping water into the local surface water system, we build French drains and soakaways that return it to the ground — a proven, lower-cost technique with a track record of fixing jobs other companies got wrong.

Garden Design & Landscaping:
From Design to Reality

A garden that works has to earn its keep in every season, not just look good in a photograph. We design and build gardens across Cheshire that balance how a space looks with how it's actually used, whether that's a full rear-garden transformation, a new front garden, or reshaping an awkward plot.

We handle both sides of the job under one roof: the hard landscaping (patios, paths, levels, retaining structures, drainage) and the soft landscaping that finishes it (planting, turf, borders). For projects that need a detailed planting plan, we bring in our RHS-affiliated horticulturist to put together a proper planting schedule matched to your soil, aspect and the look you're after.

  • Design proposal covering layout, materials and planting

Small patio or complete transformation

Not every garden needs a full redesign. We take on projects of every scale, from a single new patio or a boundary fix to a complete transformation of the whole plot — and price accordingly.

Patios, Driveways & Resin Jointing: Finished to Actually Last

We design and lay patios and driveways across Cheshire in natural stone, porcelain and block paving, built on a properly prepared and drained sub-base, so the surface stays flat and stable for years, not just for the first winter.

Every patio and driveway we lay is finished with our Everlasting Grout resin jointing system as standard, because how a surface is jointed matters just as much as how it's laid.

Everlasting Grout: a joint that doesn't fail

Most modern paving jointing is a sand-and-resin compound. It's quick and easy to install, and it's also the reason so many patios and driveways start to look tired within a couple of years. Sand-and-resin compounds have no real structural strength, and they typically wash out within 12 to 24 months. Once that happens, surface water gets underneath the paving. In winter, that water freezes, and the frost pushes the stones up and loosens them, the start of a domino effect across the whole surface.

Everlasting Grout is different. It's a hard-set resin jointing system that becomes part of the structure of your driveway or patio, not just a cosmetic fill. It sets hard within fifteen minutes of installation, it's completely non-porous, and it can't be washed out with a power hose. Where there are voids or gaps beneath your paving, it flows in and fills them, locking every stone together. It works on almost any paving material, from traditional Yorkstone to modern porcelain.

Re-grouting existing patios & driveways

If your existing patio or driveway has loose, cracked or washed-out jointing, you don't necessarily need to relay it. In many cases we can re-grout the existing paving with Everlasting Grout, restoring both the look and the structural integrity of the surface at a fraction of the cost of starting again.

Turfing & Lawns: Laid Properly, From the Ground Up

A good lawn is decided before a single roll of turf goes down. We prepare the ground properly, clearing, levelling, improving drainage and conditioning the soil, because turf laid on poor ground will always struggle, however good the turf itself is.

Because we supply turf directly, we can offer it at competitive prices whether you're laying a brand-new lawn, replacing a tired one, or reseeding a worn patch as part of a wider garden project.

What we cover

  • Ground clearance, levelling and soil preparation

  • Drainage improvements where a lawn is prone to waterlogging

  • Quality turf, supplied direct at competitive rates

  • Full lawn renovation for tired or patchy lawns

  • Aftercare advice to establish a lawn that lasts

Turf Supply Without the Full Job

Already doing the groundwork yourself, or just need quality turf to finish a DIY project? We supply turf on its own too, at the same competitive rates — no obligation to book the full lay-and-prepare service.

Fencing & Dry Stone Walling:
Boundaries Built the Cheshire Way

Dry stone walling is a genuine craft, and one that suits the Cheshire landscape as well as it ever did, a boundary or feature wall built without mortar, relying on the skill of how the stone is set, that will stand for generations if it's built properly.

Alongside traditional walling, we also design and install fencing for boundaries, privacy and security, matched to the style of your garden and property.

Services

  • Dry stone walling — boundary walls, feature walls and repairs

  • Timber and panel fencing for boundaries and privacy

  • Gates and access points

  • Repairs to existing walls and fences

Repairs as Well as New Builds

Not every wall or fence needs replacing outright. Where a dry stone wall has slumped or a fence panel has failed, we can often repair or rebuild sections rather than starting again — a quicker, less disruptive fix where the rest of the boundary is sound.

Ponds & Water Features: That Bring a Garden to Life

A well-built pond or water feature does more for a garden than almost anything else, movement, sound, reflection, and a magnet for wildlife. We design and build ponds and water features to suit the space, from a small formal feature to a larger wildlife pond, with aquatic and marginal planting handled through our specialist network.

Services

  • Bespoke pond design and construction

  • Wildlife ponds, built to support local biodiversity

  • Water features and formal ponds

  • Aquatic and marginal planting

  • Repairs and renovations to existing ponds

Already Have a Pond?

If an existing pond has silted up, lost its liner, or just needs bringing back to life, we can renovate it rather than starting from scratch — cleaning it out, repairing the structure, and replanting so it looks established again within a season.

Garden Drainage Solutions:
The Way That Actually Works

A garden that floods, puddles, or never quite dries out isn't just annoying — it can undermine a lawn, a patio, or a planting scheme no matter how well it's built. We've been solving drainage problems in Cheshire gardens for over three decades, and we've fixed plenty that other companies had already had a go at and failed to sort.

An older, better approach

Modern drainage often means running pipework into the local surface water or waste water system, expensive to install, and it moves your garden's water problem straight into the drains, brooks and watercourses that already have enough to cope with.

We use older, proven techniques, French drains and soakaways, that do the opposite: they get water down deep into the ground where it belongs, rather than sending it into the local drainage network. In most gardens, a properly built French drain or soakaway can solve the problem at a much lower cost than installing pipe runs connected to the surface water system.

What we install

  • French drains for persistently wet lawns, borders and patios

  • Soakaways sized to suit your garden and soil type

  • Land drainage for larger or more complex waterlogging issues

  • Drainage integrated into new patios, driveways and lawns
